Often moles on the face are in cosmetically sensitive areas, and traditional removal techniques and incisions can be as noticeable as the mole itself. Therefore, the “scarless” mole removal is a popular option for removal. This facial surgery entails using special fine instruments and excision using radiosurgery, which decreases both blood loss and chances of scarring. The limitation of the procedure is that it removes only the protruding part of a lesion, not the elements deep to the surface of the skin, so there may be a chance of recurrence in the future. If any specimen is found to have a malignant or premalignant lesion, full excision would be required.

During your consultation, Dr. Patel will take time to learn about the history of the skin lesion, and discuss the treatment options in detail. She will go through your medical history and perform a physical exam in order to determine the best plan to reach your goals, and make sure you are a good candidate for radiosurgery removal, or “scarless” mole removal.
The day of the procedure, Dr. Patel will mark the skin, review the planned procedure, and go over any additional questions prior to the procedure. The specimen (if any) is typically sent for pathology.
After surgery, you will be provided with postoperative care instructions, and instructions for followup. Dr. Patel will see you for followup the week after surgery, at which time pathology results (if any) will be discussed. Additional postoperative visits are typically spaced at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months after the procedure.
Yes, you can get moles removed by a variety of methods.
Moles can be removed by shave biopsy, excisional biopsy, and radiosurgery removal (also known as “scarless” mole removal).
All procedures leave a scar, but how noticeable or not noticeable depends on technique, post-removal care, and the body’s natural healing process.
There are ways to remove moles from the face with minimal scarring, or scarring that is hard to detect.
The area of mole removal will be mildly sore after removal, but not painful enough to require prescription pain medication.
After mole removal, there may be some “crusting” on the surface if the wound weeps any fluid, some pink color to the site, and some soreness early on. Within a week, the area is much more healed and needs sun protection until fully healed.
Typically 1-2 weeks for the surface to heal, and weeks to months for the pink to fade.
The cost for mole removal surgery will depend on a number of factors, including the size, location, and technique used.
