Shapely buttock curves have become one of the most sought after aesthetic procedures, and vary from a small to moderate fullness toned athletic look, to high volume fullness with a more distinctly voluptuous look. Through Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery, Dr. Anita can help you achieve a natural-looking, proportional, rounded buttock contour using fat transfer from the abdomen, love handles, lower back, or other donor site. The degree of fullness is guided by both your preference and the amount of fat you have available elsewhere for transfer. Fat transfer not only helps to improve the buttocks, it can also beautifully contour the donor site!
BBL has become an immensely common and popular procedure over the last decade. The lifting effect of BBL surgery is a function of how and where the fat is placed, not on a pulling or cutting maneuver. Dr. Anita is an expert in the art of BBL contouring for those who want a more natural look.
Buttock implants remain an option as well, although this approach is typically secondary to using one’s own fat.
BBL starts with liposuction, typically of love handles, abdomen, low back; followed by preparation of fat and transfer of good fat to the upper buttocks, with customized placement per patient. Buttock implants, in contrast, require an incision long enough to pass a firm silicone implant through the opening and into the buttocks.

During your consultation, Dr. Anita will take time to learn more about your motivations and goals, understand your concerns, and discuss the treatment in detail. She will go through your medical history and perform a physical exam in order to determine the best plan to reach your goals, and make sure you are a good candidate for surgery.
The day of surgery, Dr. Patel will meet with you once again in the pre-operative area, and review the planned procedure(s). Next, she will mark the surgical sites, and go over any additional questions you may have prior to surgery.
After surgery, you will be provided with postoperative care instructions, and instructions for follow-up. Dr. Anita will see you for the first postoperative visit 1-2 days after surgery, with an additional visit the week after for drain removal if appropriate. Additional post-op visits are typically spaced at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after surgery.
Butt augmentation can enhance natural curves, or create curves where there once were none. By playing with the overall proportions, a butt augmentation can affect one’s overall figure. Patients often report a boost of confidence and sex appeal as well.
A Brazilian Butt Lift is fat transfer to the buttocks, to enhance the shape and volume of the derriere. There is no cutting or skin removal. The lifting effect is from strategic placement of fat along the upper buttocks, to create a higher and rounder look.
While there is not an exact origin of the term to my knowledge, the origin of buttock enhancement is often credited to Dr. Ivo Pitanguy, a Brazilian plastic surgeon. However, the current day procedure for Brazilian Butt Lift reflects a procedure built on techniques developed over time. The term is also easy to remember given the well known Brazilian attention to the buttocks.
The liposuction and fat transfer done for BBL are surgical procedures that create permanent change. The factors that influence how long the results are perceived to last depend on how much of the transferred fat survives (or “takes”), and how stable one’s weight remains. Even with weight fluctuations, the overall proportions tend to remain, even if the total volumes vary.
The buttocks and liposuction sites will be sore during recovery, but most patients are back at work in a week, and using precautions like wearing proper postoperative garments, and using “booty pillows” that sit under the thighs and prevent pressure on the buttocks.
Butt implants are silicone implants that have a firmer feel to more closely mimic the buttocks, rather than a softer silicone feel used for breast implants. They are placed via an incision located along the upper part of the gluteal cleft (crease between the cheeks).
Butt implants are safe. Just as with any surgical implants, there are risks involved, and these risks are discussed during consultation. The main risk with buttock implants is the risk of infection.
