The eyes are a focal point on the face for both women and men, and once the eyelids start drooping or showing prominent bags, it can create a tired or aged appearance. Eyelid lift surgery helps freshen the eye area by removing lax skin and/or excess fatty tissue, using incisions that are designed to be hidden. This facial procedure in particular requires different management in the male versus female face.

During your consultation, Dr. Patel will take time to learn more about your concerns and goals, and discuss the treatment options in detail. She will go through your medical history and perform a physical exam in order to determine the best plan to reach your goals, and make sure you are a good candidate for surgery.
The day of surgery, Dr. Patel will meet with you in the pre-operative area, review the planned procedure, and go over any additional questions you may have prior to surgery.
After surgery, you will be provided with postoperative care instructions, and instructions for followup. Dr. Patel will see you for the first postoperative visit 1-2 days after surgery, with an additional visit the week after for suture removal if appropriate. Additional postoperative visits are typically spaced at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after surgery.
Plastic surgery can make the eyes look bigger by removing excess skin and/or fat above or below the eyes, in addition to a brow lift if the brows are drooping.
Double eyelids refers to having a visible upper eyelid crease. Double eyelids are thought to be attractive because they add definition to the lid area, and often make the eyes look bigger. Double eyelid surgery is a common request from Asian patients who lack a visible crease naturally.
Excess upper eyelid skin is usually a result of aging and genetics, and can also result from stretching out of the lids from repeated inflammation. At times, the upper lid skin can appear as if there is excess, when instead the cause is actually due to a drooping brow, so that must be evaluated at the same time.
Blepharoplasty surgery is a reduction of excess eyelid skin and/or fat, and can be done to the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on what is needed.
Eyelid surgery is safe overall, with low downtime. However, as with any surgical procedure, it has risks, the most serious being internal bleeding that can permanently affect the vision if not found and treated early.
Recovery time for eyelid surgery is generally 1 week. It is normal to have some degree of swelling after an eyelid procedure, and stitches are typically removed 5-7 days after surgery. Eyelid procedures can also result in bruising which typically lasts 7-10 days.
There is no limit to the number of times one has eyelid surgery, but when done in appropriate candidates, the results are generally long lasting. The speed at which one ages is mainly genetic, so an additional procedure may be needed down the line once further looseness of the skin develops. In cases where there is asymmetry following surgery, a revision may be indicated.
The cost for cosmetic eyelid surgery will depend on many factors, including type of anesthesia, if upper or lower eyelids are being treated, and what other procedures if any are done at the same time. To provide you with accurate pricing information, we invite you to book a complimentary Pre-Consult Phone Call with our Patient Care Coordinator by calling 310-205-0212.
